The Junior Woman's Club of Mequon-Thiensville is made up of a broad range of women in the area. We are a combination of working women and/or stay at home moms with a sharp bent for fun times paired with a bit of community service. As one of our posters once said, "We are a small group of busy ladies looking for more busy ladies who love Ozaukee County too. ...Some with kids & some without... Some who are LOUD & some who are quiet..." This still so simply sums up our group.
We are a 501(c)3 organization.

A trip down memory lane
The club has been around for several generations but established itself independently from the national federation in the early 2000's. The club has a long history of community involvement and service throughout Ozaukee County and has been instrumental in numerous community projects over the years.
In 1978, Concerned Ozaukee Parent's Exchange (COPE) was initiated by the Junior Woman's Club of Mequon-Thiensville with a vision to provide support for parents via support groups and a hotline. Calls were originally taken at the homes of volunteers. As COPE grew, it contracted with Ozaukee County to provide 24-hour access to crisis intervention and referral services. In December 1999, the COPE Administrative Office joined six other non-profit agencies at the Family Enrichment Center, now the Ozaukee Nonprofit Center. Today, the COPE Hotline has re-positioned as an agency program within Sirona Recovery, Inc. (formerly known as Starting Point, Inc.) and is under the larger umbrella of The Difference Principle network. With this re-positioning, the COPE program continues to be committed to supporting callers in the Ozaukee County area. Our club continues to support the COPE Hotline’s far-reaching efforts through charitable donations made possible via our annual Turkey Trot.
Also, during the 1970's the club donated a signboard located at the northeast corner of Mequon and Cedarburg Roads to the Mequon-Thiensville community. In the many decades of its existence, the board provided a voice to countless community organizations, events and community news.
In 2013, the club replaced the sign with a modern and timeless design which will serve the community for years to come. Along with many other community organizations, our group regularly advertises upcoming events and pertinent community information on the board.

In 2010, through proceeds generated from the Turkey Trot event, the club was able to donate the necessary funds to the Mequon Nature Preserve (MNP) for eco-friendly furniture within an otherwise vacant room. Now one of the most popular rooms for community events at the MNP, the room also showcases "critter tanks." These glass viewing tanks feature a variety of aquatic and amphibious creatures including tree frogs, turtles and a rare albino garter snake. In 2013, Juniors provided funding for a new HD projector.
Between 2014 and 2016 Juniors donated $60,000 to Thiensville Village Park. Money was used to create arched entryways and install new playground equipment.

Turkey Trot History
Many years ago the club held an annual wine tasting event which acted as its biggest fundraiser. As the event grew too cumbersome, the club looked for other events it could grow into. At the time, the group thought a 5K sounded simple enough, and thus the Junior Woman's Club of M-T 5K Turkey Trot was born! While far from a sophisticated event, the race grows in popularity year after year. Every year we look to improve the event a little at a time. In 2014 the 10th Annual Turkey Trot was commemorated with a 10-in-10 campaign benefiting 10 local organizations and causes.
Planning for the Turkey Trot keeps our small club busy throughout the year. We're so pleased to be able to bring this much anticipated event to the community each year and are so thankful to our loyal runners/walkers, sponsors and the tireless assistance from the entire Village of Thiensville team.
